Photo Equipment and Student Discounts

Over the course of the next two years you'll be purchasing equipment. The two stores in Portland used by professionals include ProPhotoSupply (http://www.tamron.com/lenses/students.asp) and the other is Citizen's Photo (www.citizensphoto.com/ ). They have knowledgeable staffs and can work with you on specific student discount programs.

Unfortunately, most 35mm cameras don't fall under the discount programs but all the other stuff does. One of the only lens companies that has discounts in Tamron, a well-respected lens maker. You can go to: http://www.tamron.com/lenses/students.asp.

Here are the addresses of some of the programs that may be helpful to you. In most cases, you'll need to download a form for me or one of the instructors to sign, you give student id numbers, and other information. You take the form to ProPhotoSupply or Citizens and they order the equipment.

Pictureline offers student discounts for Photoflex lighting equipment and more.

New Student Orientation

Welcome our New Class of 2011
Welcome New Students of the Professional Photo Program
On Tuesday, Sept 15 the college sponsors an Orientation Day. You can learn more from http://www.mhcc.edu/pages/1316.asp. This is particularly good for brand new students. You are encouraged to participate in any or all of the activities. There will be a free lunch from 1-2pm. At 2 p.m., I would like to meet with you in our primary classroom of 1386. Once you're on campus, the 1300 wing of the classrooms is to the left of the Bookstore as you face it. The bookstore is directly below the entrance flag poles. During our orientation, which should go for 1-2 hours, I would like to show you our facility, go over general expectations, answer questions, discuss the schedule and discuss photo supplies and photo equipment resources. Most of you will have straight forward schedules since you are just starting with us. But there are others who may need a bit more consultation. So I'll work with you personally.
I look forward to seeing you.
